Dome Golf Classic
Site of the 2010 Dome Golf Classic The Donald Ross Course at French Lick This year’s event is all about going back to the very roots of the game you love. The best place to do that in this area is on the Donald Ross Course at French Lick. And not just because the course was designed by Ross, a world-renowned architect who was born in 1872 in Scotland, the birthplace of golf, and learned the game at its legendary St. Andrews course. The Ross Course also recently added to its lore by being named the “Third best public course in Indiana” by Golf Week in its February issue. The magazine’s raters termed the Ross layout “one of the greatest examples of classic golf course architecture.” Built in 1917, the course underwent a $4.6 million restoration in 2006 that players say gives it that nostalgic old school feel, with the warm feeling of stepping into yesteryear. The course’s biggest mark on history is Walter Hagen winning the 1924 PGA Championship there, one of his 11 majors that rank him third all-time.
